PIONEERING SATELLITE TECHNOLOGY THROUGH SUCCESS, ADVANCES AND PROGRESS.
The Centre for Satellite Technology Development (CSTD )is one of the seven (7) activity centres of the Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). NASRDA is an Agency under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology for the Republic of Nigeria and is tasked with the implementation of the Nation’s Space Policy and Programs. The policy provides for the creation of Activity Centers with different mandates geared towards holistic realization of the overall objective. Being one of the activity centers, the CSTD is an autonomous organization with clear set vision and mission statements.
CSTD VISION STATEMENT
The Centre shall attain continental leadership in satellite technology through the development of competence and capabilities in satellite subsystems as a tool for national growth, integrity and a huge contribution to the development of space technology for the benefit of mankind.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The Centre shall achieve satellite technology competence so as to indigenously design, test and fabricate satellites for various missions.
OUR HISTORY
The Centre for Satellite Technology Development (CSTD) is an activity Centre of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). The Agency is a Parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology charged with the implementation of the National Space Policy and Programmes. The policy provides for the establishment of activity Centres with different mandates geared towards holistic realization of the objectives of the policy.
The Centre, which was established alongside five other centers, first had her office located on Plot 555, Maman Nasir Crescent Asokoro, in 2008. The Centre moved to her present location alongside her Mother Agency (NASRDA). On establishment, the Centre had Prof. J.I Ejimanya as her first Director and Chief Executive.
Centre for Satellite Technology Development (CSTD) was established to undertake the following responsibilities among others;
a) Research and Development, in collaboration with Experts and Institutions at home and abroad, in all aspects of Satellite technology particularly development of satellite payloads for both geostationary and non-geostationary satellites and for earth observation, communication and science applications.
b) Capacity building in collaboration with foreign and local institutions.
c) Command and control of satellites in orbit and downloading and processing of imagery and other data.
d) Creation of awareness and public enlightenment through workshops and conferences, hosting of public and private officials as well as students from various institutions.
e) Involvement in technology transfer drives of NASRDA through extended training of staff at international satellites development and production facilities.
Since establishment, the Centre has had a total number of five (5) Directors both full time and acting capacity. They include Prof. J.I. Ejimanya, Dr. Solomon Adeniyi, Dr. Agboola Olufemi, Engr. Prof. Spencer Ojogba Onuh and the present Director and Chief Executive, Engr. Dr. Sadiq Umar.
Engr. Dr. Sadiq Umar resumed office in December, 2021 and is still the Director/Chief executive till date.
